“This is an incredible vintage for this wine!” enthused Geoff Gorsuch, our winemaker. “It has just enough grassiness that you know it’s Sauvignon Blanc, but I love the fruit and the floral note—this new vineyard is just great.”
Winemaker Notes
This release of our 2005 Sauvignon Blanc marks a change in style and a new vineyard location for Goosecross. Looking for a vibrant Loire Valley style, Geoff enlisted the help of Bob Pepi who is recognized industry wide as an innovator and pioneer in the production of fine Sauvignon Blanc and who readily admits a partiality to the variety. Together they located a wonderful vineyard in the hills just north of Napa Valley and went to work. They harvested the Sauvignon Blanc at slightly lower sugars than most other varieties to retain the clean, racy acidity. The wine was fermented slowly, at low temperatures to accentuate the fresh grapefruit, melon and citrus blossom.
Food Suggestions
Asked for food suggestions, Geoff replied “Seafood and goat cheese about sums it up if you ask me!” Our tasting room staff loves it with sushi. While it’s the ultimate wine to serve with fish, the bright acidity is cleansing and gives it great versatility at the table whether you serve it with a simple salad or a rich preparation bathed in cream. All by itself, there’s no better choice to entice, refresh and revive.
