Did you know that the word “gourmet” referred to a lover of wine long before it had anything to do with food? Or that the word “libation” originally meant an offering to the gods? If you love wine and you love words, this episode is for you! In this phone interview, etymologist Charles Hodgson, the author of History of Wine Words, tells Nancy Hawks Miller, our Director of Education, about the origins of some of the words and about writing this fun and fascinating book!

  1. Hi!

I have been a podcast subscriber for over two years now and I really enjoy how you cover a multitude of wine related topics and the manner in which you do so. Your style is thorough and concise and I have gleaned a lot of good information by listening. The podcast on the history of wine words was extremely interesting and I am looking forward to getting a copy of the book.

My brother and I do a beverage podcast where we discuss any and all types of things you drink. Our website is http://www.aboutbeverages.com and although I have not yet come across any Goosecross wines yet here in Tucson, Arizona, perhaps one day I will and then we can do a Goosecross wine podcast!

Thank you so much for the work that you do on your podcasts. I always look forward to hearing them!

    Sincerely,
    Keith Behrens
